Alaska Helicopter Elopement Meets Lakeside Wedding

Whenever someone asks me what my favorite day at work has been… this Alaska helicopter elopement is definitely at the top of the list. Katie reached out to me about capturing her Alaska wedding outside of Anchorage in July.

Before I dive into my story time about this amazing few days in Alaska, I want to drop Katie and Dylan’s wedding video below. This film shares a bit of their first look helicopter adventure (for which I mostly focused on taking photos) and then dives into a full-blown wedding film that I just love.

UGH HOW SPECIAL IS THAT!? Okay – let’s get back into Katie and Dylan’s story:

The special thing about Katie is that we actually went to middle school together way back when in Mason City Iowa, and social media was the only thing that really kept us in the loop over the years once I moved to Oregon.

I was so touched that Katie wanted to book with me for her wedding photo and video. And I also saw an opportunity for Katie and Dylan to experience something incredible, beyond their intimate wedding on Nancy Lake at a cabin. I suggested: what if we added a helicopter elopement vibe into the mix? I suggested we use one of the few days leading up to the wedding to have a first look and take portraits around Alaska via helicopter. Katie and Dylan were IN and we were off.

This was one of the coolest experiences for all of us! We booked with Outbound Heli and I highly recommend booking with them for your Anchorage, Alaska helicopter tours. They took great care of us and were experts are knowing where to land.

As we soared above the wild landscapes we spotted moose and even a bear! And of course, the endless views of glaciers, mountains, and rivers will bless my dreams for years to come.

I don’t think there’s really much I can say that the photos can’t say better.

Well damn, it’s hard to have much to say after all those incredible photos. To this day, they just make me SO HAPPY to look at! I mean, come one, Katie and Dylan are just so obviously in the moment and soaking up all the joy – it’s contagious!

This post also serves as official proof that, while I’m based in Portland, Oregon, I definitely LOVE to travel all around the USA to capture wedding and elopements of all kinds.
